CITYLIFE / Eating Out
All has a reason

Purveyor of all things fine, French and edible since 1886, this gourmet
goods giant knows it's got it and is certainly not afraid to charge for
it. Outfitted in classy greys and soft pinks, the top-floor cafe offers
an RMB 188 buffet lunch, which is an affordable way to get a feel for
their otherwise pricey a la carte menu. With over 20 selections, each one
is prepared with obvious attention, such as the smoked salmon mille
feuille, a stack of alternating layers of salmon, cream cheese and flaky
pastry.
At the deli one floor below, indulge in a loaf of fragrant, chewy olive
bread (RMB 22), or trigger your Proustian memories with a delicate little
madeleine (RMB 10). Finally, hit their bottom floor boutique supermarket,
a tour de force of their luxury products. Here you'll find a gift for
that person who has everything-perhaps they are in need of an 80 kuai
deluxe chocolate bar?
